Barbara Delinsky is a very talented writer, and I've enjoyed several of her stories. I do have to admit that I like her newer writings better compared with those written earlier on as she was beginning. When I bought this book, it was following her newest story, "Sweet Salt Air" which I thoroughly enjoyed. It had just enough sass to make it enjoyable without all the melodrama. I thought "Hold My Heart" would be along the same lines....
Hold My Heart was originally written under another title some time back and then reintroduced; it was a good story, but a little too much machoism from the male character for me to enjoy. I, along with many friends had overbearing male figures in their lives early on (which would have been the timeframe this story was written) however, due to that exposure, it's not an attractive attribute in today's love interest. I found myself rolling my eyes as I was reading, thinking "Seriously?!"
I can't imagine any self reliant independant working woman would allow herself to blindly allow a man tell her what she can and cannot do as this male character did. The female character seemed a bit of a wimp letting herself be led along by a total stranger instead of returning back to her own home where she had friends and employment waiting for her after her recovery from a plane crash. Not only is it wimpy, it leaves the impression that it's okay to have some stranger swoop in and take over her life without questioning who this man is; or if he has some ulterior motive for zoning in on her the way he did. It could very well have turned into a story of human trafficking with a dark stranger preying upon young women..... (It happens more than gets reported.)
It is a good storyline, but I would have enjoyed it more without the bossy-I-will-handle-everything-just-get-in-the-car attitude and more spunk from the leading lady.
He even made arrangements for her parents burial AND funeral service without her..... Fft! THAT wouldn't happen!!!
.
If you like domineering men and damsels in distress who meekly obey orders without saying, "Hold on a minute, I'm over 21 and you don't own me", then you'll enjoy this book.

Hold My Heart edition by Barbara Delinsky Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
Horribly disappointed by this story. Never have I read a book by this author that I've hoped it would end soon, until this one. I love this author's style but she missed the mark this time.
Several years ago when back in my reading days I read one of her books and noted on a 3X5 card her name, years later I uncovered that card and ordered this book. She has intrigue, mystery and of course romance. But clean and no usless bad language used I thoroughly recommend this book and really all of her work
Awesome writing, I never fail to be intrigued by Barbara's stories. She writes of life; its' ups and downs, yet manages to find the beauty in each tapestry she has woven. Life is like that when you choose to focus on the golden lining rather than the dark cloud. We all have them. Her writings always manage to inspire the hope and faith that the current storm will somehow serve a greater purpose.
I was disappointed in this novel by Delinsky - her previous plots were deeper and exhibited 'second chances' for love or purpose in life, etc. This one was on the same level as silly Harlequin plots involving a naive, 29-yr old virgin [really?] and a man who actually stalks her and keeps her as a hostage for her own good. Right.
I love Barbara Delinsky and she didn't disappoint with this book. I believe it is an reissue of an older book and if you are a Delinsky reader you will notice it was written by a younger Delinsky but still a very good book.
We love a good romance story, but a amnesia romance rocks!! B D really rocks it. Barbara Delinsky!! The writer ever.
A woman in a coma for seven weeks after the crash of the plane that kills her parents wakes up to find a man at her side who she knows from her past in a casual way. She is in a different state from where she lived. The story continues with her discovering a grandmother she didn't know she had and her discovering the part the man she knew in her past was going to have in her future. She learns facts her family kept from her as she builds a relationship with the man she knew casually in her past.
